The year was 1989 when I got the call to join The Joyful Sounds Quartet. I have often been asked how I came to be a member of this quartet. I would have to say that God had a plan to bring the four of us together and show us His faithfulness. We have done our best to be faithful and run the race that God has set before each one of us.
Don Maness sang bass for The Joyful Sounds Quartet when we first started. He retired a few years later and moved to Florida and not long ago was promoted to heaven. Dennis Kelch joined us singing bass after Don retired and has been a big part of God’s plan for The Joyful Sounds Quartet. That is the only change that has been made as far as singers.
I sing the lead or second tenor, Dan Jex sings baritone, and Dave Falk still sings the high tenor part. The four of us are not only singing together after all these years, we are still very good friends. There are no friends like old friends. We are all grandpa’s now.
What is the best way to get through life and run a good race for the Lord? I believe we have found the answer to that question. Trust the Lord and follow His plan. Have a good wife and family, and have good friends you can depend on. As friends, we have spent many good times together. We have seen God bless our efforts. As we sing songs of praise, God has touched the hurting and changed lives for the better. We give God the praise and thank Him for His faithfulness to all of us. We have faced some hard times together as good friends. If we live long enough, we may all face sickness, the loss of a loved one, or maybe even a fire in your home. Death may leave a heartache that no one can heal, but love leaves many memories that no one can steal. There are times in life when we may have to ask the Lord to help us give our burdens to His tender loving care, and grant us faith to trust Him fully, knowing that each one He will bear. I have had to ask God to forgive me for the many times all I offer Him is my pain. May we never forget to offer Him our praise and thanks for His many blessings.
The Joyful Sounds Quartet is so thankful for all the help we have had down through the years from our many friends and loved ones. We are thankful for our sound man and manager, Dave Price and his wonderful wife Carole, for all they do to help The Joyful Sounds Quartet follow God’s plan for our lives. Most of all we would thank God for His great faithfulness to all of us. May we magnify you Father God, with songs of thoughtful praise, as your grateful children we confess. How perfect are your ways. We love you Lord!
